WEIGHT LOSS MANAGEMENT

Gynemed Surgical Center now offers weight loss management.

Patients are now welcome to come in for a consultation with one of our providers to discuss their health concerns, interest in weight loss, the benefits of weight loss, and the options we have to offer.

Originally created to treat diabetes, Semaglutide, is a medication also available for use to treat obesity as a metabolic disease.

An early study conducted with 2,000 obese adult participants compared people using Semaglutide plus a diet and exercise program with people who only made the same lifestyle changes without using Semaglutide. After 68 weeks, half of the participant group using Semaglutide lost 15% of their body weight, and nearly a third lost 20% of their body weight.

Participants who incorporated only lifestyle changes, diet and exercise without using Semaglutide lost about 2.4% of their weight. In one month of use, patients have seen on average about a 5% weight loss. Ozempic and Rybelsus are the brands carried here at Gynemed.

The medication works by increasing insulin production to stabilize blood sugar, decreasing stomach and intestinal peristalsis, leaving you feeling full longer, and decreasing your appetite so you intake less food. Diet and exercise helps improve your results when using Semaglutide and improve rates of longevity for results.

Patients often regain some of the weight they’ve lost once they discontinue the medication do to continued unhealthy habits and practices.

Ozempic is the injection form of the medication while Rybelsus is the pill form, providing options for patient who may prefer one form over another. The medication is recommended to persons who have a BMI of 30 or higher, and those who have a BMI of 27 with an accompanying diagnosis such as high blood pressure, PCOS, diabetes, high cholesterol and more.
